Absurdly good collection of US rail maps from 1830s onward. In JPG2000 format

Suzanne Wenger, an Austrian woman, who became a priestess of Osun known as Adunni Olorisa, passed away at age 93, surrounded by adopted children and friends. An amazing story of a woman who built fascinating bridges between Nigerian and European culture

Evaluating web hosting and DNS providers in terms of their dedication to protecting user rights and rights of free speech. My experiences don't necessarily align with the authors – I would never use DreamWeb again – but useful to see the considerations offered, and glad someone is asking this question.

Ted Nelson's response to the Gary Wolf story in Wired. Useful in triangulating towards a master narrative

A fascinating and cautionary tale about Ted Nelson's Xanadu project, designed to do hypertext "right", including a method to quote text that ensures credit and payment to the quoted author (which seems in conflict with my understanding of fair use.) There's a lot of smart thinking in the project mixed with a heavy dose of crazy. Excellent cautionary tale for the would-be revolutionary.
Unfortunately, the datasets index_new uses are from the early 1990s.
They make a great historic snapshot, in the way that the maps of old railroads do, but they’re in no way useful for understanding the present. It would be nice if they were to update the datasets.
