Terrific essay looks at the question of why hits persist in a long tail age. Suggests that hits are mostly viewed by people who don't consume a lot of a particular type of media, who tend to be far less picky than experts. (Transformers the movie is rated more highly than Fassbinder films on Netflix because the Fassbinder fans tend to be a lot more critical…) Suggests there's money in the long tail, but way more in the big head… and that the bad news is in the mediocre middle.
